NAIROBI, KENYA, April 27, 2026 — Harrowing CCTV footage has shed light on the final moments of 22-year-old Consolata Githinji, who died after falling from the sixth floor of an apartment in Kileleshwa.
Detectives say Consolata had visited the apartment in the company of a 33-year-old man in the early hours of Sunday morning. The man is currently being treated as a person of interest as investigations continue.
Surveillance footage now under review begins at around 4:11am, showing a security guard making routine patrols within the apartment complex shortly before the pair arrived.
At approximately 4:17am, Consolata is captured entering the premises alongside the man. The footage shows her briefly reaching out toward the guard, though no clear interaction takes place.
Moments later, at around 4:18am, the guard is seen assisting the two to unlock a keybox believed to contain keys to the apartment. They then proceed to a unit located on the sixth floor.
Investigators have also established that earlier occupants had accessed the same apartment between the previous evening and early morning hours, raising further questions about activity inside the unit prior to the incident.
At around 4:32am, CCTV captures shadows near the apartment doorway, suggesting a possible disturbance inside moments before the fall.
Two minutes later, the guard is seen entering the apartment. Authorities are now trying to determine what prompted his intervention and what he encountered inside.
At 4:43am, he exits and briefly lingers outside before walking away, only to return again at 4:46am. According to investigators, this marks the last known timeline before Consolata fell from the building.
Nearly two hours later, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrive at the scene and begin processing the apartment, documenting evidence as part of the ongoing probe.
In a statement to police, the man accompanying Consolata claims he found her standing at a bedroom window moments before the incident.
“When I got there, she was standing on the bedroom window. By the time I reacted, she jumped, I could not save the situation,” he reportedly told investigators.
Authorities have since established that the apartment had not been booked directly by the man, further deepening the mystery surrounding the circumstances of the visit.
Police are now working to verify his account against CCTV footage, witness statements, and forensic findings as they seek to establish exactly what happened in the moments leading up to Consolata’s death.
More details are expected as investigations continue.
