Kenyan Sets New World Record After Planting Over 23,000 Trees in 24 Hours

ELGEYO-MARAKWET, KENYA— A Kenyan environmental enthusiast, Hillary Kiplagat Kibiwott, is set to make history after planting a record 23,326 trees within 24 hours.

The 29-year-old from Elgeyo-Marakwet County surpasses the previous world record of 23,060 trees set in 2021 by Canadian planter Antoine Moses in Alberta, Canada.

The record-breaking effort begins on Wednesday, April 22, and concludes on the morning of Thursday, April 23, at Kessup Forest Station.

Kiplagat pushes his physical and mental limits throughout the exercise, planting thousands of seedlings in a continuous effort against time.

The achievement places Kenya on the global map in environmental conservation, highlighting the role individuals can play in addressing climate change through reforestation.

The feat is expected to draw attention from environmental groups and global record-keeping bodies as verification processes get underway.

If officially confirmed, the milestone will mark one of the most remarkable individual contributions to tree planting in recent years.
