Yanga SC Battles CBE in Crucial CAF Champions League Clash

On September 14, 2024, Tanzania’s Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga SC) faces a pivotal test as they clash with Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) in the CAF Champions League second-round preliminary match. The game, set at Addis Ababa’s Abebe Bikila Stadium, holds significant weight as Yanga SC looks to replicate last year’s success when they reached the quarter-finals for the first time in 25 years.

Yanga SC’s head coach, Miguel Gamondi, remains optimistic despite some challenges, including injuries to key players like Ivorian striker Yao Kouassi and Tanzanian winger Farid Mussa. With most of the squad returning from international duty, only 11 of the 27 registered players participated in final training sessions. However, the team’s dominant performance in the first round, where they crushed Burundi’s Vital’O FC 10-0 on aggregate, has boosted confidence ahead of this crucial encounter.

The Jangwani Street giants aim to build on this momentum, with hopes of securing an away win to strengthen their chances in the return leg set for Dar es Salaam next week. Fans are eager to see their team advance further and make a mark in Africa’s most prestigious club competition
