The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) has launched an innovative “night tours” program designed to attract more visitors and boost the country’s tourism sector. The initiative, which allows tourists to explore the museum’s collections under the stars, aims to provide a unique experience that combines culture, history, and adventure.
The night tours will feature guided walks, storytelling sessions, and cultural performances, offering a new way to experience Kenya’s rich heritage. NMK officials hope that this new venture will help increase visitor numbers, particularly during the off-peak hours, and provide a fresh revenue stream for the museums. “We are excited to offer something new and engaging,” said Dr. Mzalendo Kibunjia, the Director-General of NMK. “This is not just about tourism; it’s about making our heritage accessible in exciting ways.”
The initiative has been well-received by local and international tourists alike, with many expressing interest in exploring the museums after dark. The NMK plans to expand the program to other museum sites across the country, depending on the success of the pilot phase in Nairobi
