Alarm Over Rising School Fires in Kenya

There has been a concerning increase in the number of school fires across Kenya, resulting in significant property damage and disruption of learning activities. Over the past few weeks, multiple incidents have been reported in both primary and secondary schools, with some fires suspected to have been caused by arson. In one of the latest incidents, a fire broke out at Njia Boys School, leading to extensive damage to the dormitory.

The rise in school fires has prompted the Ministry of Education to call for thorough investigations into the causes of these incidents. While some fires have been linked to electrical faults, others are believed to be deliberate acts of sabotage. The ministry has also urged school administrators to enhance safety measures and conduct regular fire drills to prepare students and staff for emergencies.

Parents, teachers, and other stakeholders have expressed growing concern about the safety of students in schools and the need for stricter enforcement of safety protocols. The government has committed to deploying more resources to ensure that schools are adequately equipped to handle fire emergencies and prevent future incidents
