By Dishon Amanya – Bungoma

Farmers in Bungoma County have been encouraged to embrace natural farming as one of the ways to maintain soil fertility and avoid diseases that are caused by chemical fertilizers in shops.

According to agricultural and environmental experts from the countries of Kenya and India, natural agriculture also improves the environment and faces climate change.

Environmental experts from India and Kenya have camped in Bungoma County to develop a program campaign to motivate farmers on how to take care of the environment and face climate change.

The program which has been launched in Wema Children’s Home Farm, Bukembe Village, Kanduyi Constituency, targets 14 villages with the purpose of educating farmers on how to embrace Organic farming.

According to the environmental activists, organic farming is important because it helps to increase the fertility of the farm apart from dealing with diseases in the soil compared to modern farming that uses chemical fertilizers.

In order to take care of water sources, farmers have also been encouraged to plant trees in abundance to avoid the challenge of soil erosion.
