By Dishon Amanya – Bungoma

The elders from the Sabaot community Mt Elgon constituency have for the first time performed a ritual to purify the land of the area after the war that broke out between the Saboat community and the Abaluhyia community in 1892.

The elders from the mountain question the ritual as a sign of unity and peace between the communities whose home is Mt Elgon.

The cultural celebration that brought together the clans of the Sabaot community living in Kenya and the neighboring country of Uganda, the main goal being to celebrate more than one hundred years since the 1892 war that took place at Mt Elgon between the Abaluyhia and Sabaot communities.

The elders say they will respect the Sabaot culture and criticize those who were against it, reiterating that through culture the community will find unity and respect among other communities.

In addition, they have argued more about how the communities of Mt Elgon have lacked sustainable development for a long time because of what they say since devolution was started, they have nothing to be proud of, holding that now is the time to wake up from sleep to fight for their rights.

The question that arises now is will this community use this culture to respect unity among themselves? and how will they push the agenda of the mountain
