Power Outages Across Nine Counties

Kenya Power announced scheduled electricity interruptions across nine counties on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, affecting multiple regions including Nairobi, Kisii, Homa Bay, Migori, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Embu, and Garissa. These outages, set to occur between 8 am and 5 pm, are expected to impact both urban and rural areas, including essential services, businesses, and households. In Nairobi, areas such as Garden Estate, School Lane, and Mamlaka Road will experience blackouts, while other counties like Nyeri and Laikipia will also see multiple neighborhoods affected.

The company stated that these power interruptions are necessary for routine maintenance and upgrades to ensure the stability and reliability of the power supply across the country. However, the planned outages have been met with frustration from many residents and business owners who rely heavily on consistent electricity. Kenya Power has assured customers that all efforts are being made to complete the work swiftly and restore power as soon as possible.

Kenya Power has been facing criticism in recent months due to frequent outages, which have been attributed to a combination of aging infrastructure, sabotage, and logistical challenges. In response, the company has committed to improving its communication with customers regarding planned outages and enhancing its infrastructure to minimize disruptions
