The High Court has ordered Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli to appear in person at 3 pm on Tuesday to answer questions regarding the disappearance of three individuals in Kitengela two weeks ago. Justice Lawrence Mugambi had previously directed the Inspector General of Police, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Attorney General (AG), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and National Intelligence Service (NIS) to disclose the whereabouts of Bob Micheni, Jamil Longton, and Aslam Longton to the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), which filed the case.
Despite the court’s directive on August 28, the order has not been complied with. The LSK argues that multiple reports indicate the three were abducted by armed police officers and are being held in undisclosed locations.
According to court documents, the three individuals had been using their social media platforms to encourage youth participation in protests against the Finance Bill, advocating for its complete rejection. The LSK claims that following these activities, they were abducted by armed police officers.
Bob Micheni was reportedly abducted on August 19, 2024, at around 10:40 pm by masked men while returning home via the Rembo shuttle in the Kasina area. Jamil and Aslam Longton were allegedly taken the same day at around 2:00 pm while leaving their home in Kitengela. Witnesses report that the two were forced into a white Subaru, which then drove off to an unknown location.
The LSK further asserts that none of the three has been charged with any known offense in any Kenyan court.
