Kware Murders suspect Collins Jumaisi escapes from Gigiri police station

Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the Kware murder case, has escaped from Gigiri Police Station along with 12 other suspects. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning when the suspects managed to cut through a wire mesh in the cell area and scaled the perimeter wall to escape. Among those who fled were Eritrean nationals.

The escape was discovered when officers went to wake the suspects for morning tea. Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin confirmed the incident, stating that a manhunt has been launched to recapture the fugitives. “It is unfortunate this has happened, but we are pursuing the matter for action,” Amin said.

Jumaisi was a high-profile suspect, held at Gigiri Police Station pending his plea on Friday. He was previously granted a seven-day detention, along with two other suspects, Amos Momanyi and Moses Ogembo, in connection with the gruesome killings at a quarry in Nairobi’s Pipeline Estate. Jumaisi is alleged to have claimed responsibility for the murders of up to 42 women.

The suspects were earlier presented before Makadara Principal Magistrate Irine Gichobi, where the prosecution requested a 21-day detention. The court allowed Jumaisi’s continued detention at Gigiri for an additional week. Top police officers have since rushed to the scene to assess the situation.
